Introduction

When Star Wars first came out in 1977 it caught the imagination of millions across the world. Its collection of unforgettable characters and fascinating places immersed the viewers into a whole new world of possibilities. For many, it had everything from science fiction and fantasy to drama and action. Twenty-two years later it is still going strong with the new addition to the legacy: The Phantom Menace. The reason why these movies have gripped the admiration of so many is that these movies were complete in almost every fashion. It had all the aspects of ones childhood dreams. Knights, princesses, strange creatures and of course the scruffy looking nerf herders. However, what really stole the scene was the whole idea of the Force and it's peacekeepers - The Jedi. Many left the theater fantasizing about destroying the Sith and saving the Galaxy and of course remembering where they parked their car.
This codex is an attempt to help you understand how you can be one with the Force and save the galaxy or if you have evil intentions, will help you grow stronger within your corruption. In either case may the Force be with you.

*It is recommended that you understand the standard rules of simming before you continue.*

"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together."

-Obi-Wan Kenobi

Two Sides of the Same coin

"The Force is like any element of nature - it has both positive and negative aspects: the light side and the dark side.
The light teaches peace and harmony. It is the constructive side of the Force from which all love, understanding and knowledge originate - it is the essence of life. Those who are at peace with themselves can learn to harness the amazing powers of the Force.
The dark side is the counterweight to the light. Many young students falsely believe that the dark side is stronger than the light - in truth, it is only easier. The dark side springs from the negative and destructive impulses of all living beings - anger, fear and hatred are its symptoms.
Those who are sensitive to the Force soon learn that there is no middle ground between light and dark."

"Only a fully trained Jedi Knight with the Force as his ally, will conquer."

-Master Yoda

"You have been well trained my apprentice. They will be no match for you."

-Darth Sidious

The Jedi Code

"One of the first things that a Jedi must learn is the Jedi code; this philosophy lays the groundwork for the mastery of the use of the Force.

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.

-from The Jedi Code

The Jedi must carefully observe the rules of the light side of the Force to maintain harmony with the universe around him or her. The light side is created and sustained by life. The Jedi acts to preserve life. To kill is wrong.
Sometimes it is necessary to kill. The Jedi may kill in self-defense or in defense of others, especially the weak and the good. The Jedi may kill, if by his or her action he or she preserves the existence of life. However, the Jedi must never forget that killing is inherently wrong. The death is a stain upon the Jedi's spirit.
The Jedi seeks knowledge and enlightenment, peace and harmony. The Jedi wish to defeat those who would wipe out such qualities - those who would inflict death, tyranny or ignorance upon others - yet the Jedi should never act out of fear or hatred. A Jedi must act when calm and at peace with the Force. To act with anger filling one's spirit is to risk temptation to the dark side.
Jedi should seek nonviolent solutions to problems - but this isn't always possible. Sometimes killing or fighting is the only answer available."

"Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we...not this crude matter."

-Master Yoda

Different Traditions

Even those who don't believe in the Force and aren't particularly attuned to it's flow can call upon the Force without understanding exactly what they are doing. When a stroke of amazing luck occurs, or fate seems to be on your side and helps you accomplish a different objective, it could be the Force coming to your aid.

The most prominenet and well-known Force-users in the galaxy are the Jedi. But the Jedi are not the only ones who have learned to manipulate the Force. These others sometimes attribute their abilities to sources other than the Force, such as magic or gods, but they are all using this energy to manipulate the world around them. In game terms, any character who is Force-Sensitive has the ability to learn Force skills, though many will never go down that particular path.

Other Force-using traditions include the various dark side cults-including the Sith-obscure, isolated sects such as Witches of Dathomir and the Sourcerers of Tund. Some know the Force for what it is but approach its use from a different direction than the Jedi. Others know the Force by a different name. Either way, it remains the mystical energy that binds the galaxy together and gives Force-users their powers.

"There's no mystical energy field that controls my destiny."

-Han Solo

Disturbances

All life shines in the Force. A single person not particularly attuned to the Force flickers like a candle in the night, making but the slightest impression in the Force. A Force-user shines more brightly, especially when manipulating the Force. Each time a Force-user calls upon the Force, a slight tremor ripples through it that can be perceived by other Force-users. When used in harmony with the natural balance, such ripples can barely be detected. When a user constantly calls upon the Force to alter the world around him or her, the ripples become quakes the can be felt at great distances. Such quakes attract attention, making those who have less refined control over the Force or who rely on the Force too frequently the target of more powerful Force-users.

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force."

-Obi-Wan Kenobi
